The typed-four-times problem
Every business types the same number four times. Nobody bills for it, and it quietly eats the month.

Watch where it has to go: the spreadsheet, typed by hand. The accounting software, typed by hand. The job cost sheet, typed by hand. The month-end report — typed by hand, a fourth time.

This doesn't happen because anyone is careless. It happens because the tools don't talk to each other, and a human is the only bridge between them. The spreadsheet doesn't know the books exist. The books don't know about the job sheet. So a person carries each number across the gaps, by hand, four times.
Why nobody fixes it
The work is invisible. It doesn't appear on an invoice, nobody's job title mentions it, and no single instance takes more than a minute. It only shows up in aggregate — as the week the month-end close takes, as the numbers you can't trust until someone reconciles them, as the audit where the answer is "go dig through email."

The test for your own business
Pick one number that entered your business this week — a receipt, an invoice, a meter reading. Count the places a person retyped it. If the answer is more than one, you have the typed-four-times problem, and every retype is both wasted time and a chance for the copies to disagree.
